SOPHIA HAGOPIAN ARMENIAN COLLEGE

For the second consecutive year, the administration of Levon and Sophia Hagopian Armenian College announced the first week of November “Nature-Preservation Week”; on that occasion it took a list of enterprises that was concluded on Friday, November 4 with a big celebration organized by the students.

The “Nature-Preservation Week” started on Monday, October 31 with the visit of the representative of “Greenpeace” to the college who held a lecture to the intermediate students. With the use of the power point, Garo Kazanjian, a member in “Greenpeace,” presented a subject to the students of Grades 7 and 8, “Our environment, values, threats, and efforts to preserve it.” more

 

“CRUCIFIED EGGS”
THE FIRST EXHIBITION OF THE GRADUATE KEVORK KOJAYAN

Back To SchoolThe first exhibition of Kevork Kojayan, “Crucified Eggs,” took place in the hall of the college at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 11.

The exhibition included more than 50 caricatures, cartoons, and abstract paintings. There were also two children’s books in English, the subjects and the pictures of which were prepared by Kojayan.

The opening word of the exhibition was delivered by Mr. Vicken Avakian, the principal of the college, who welcomed the former graduate of the college to the great world of art. He said that internationally the genres of caricature and painting have created some interest around them, but in the Armenian reality they haven’t been well-spread yet. more

INTEGRATION OR ASSIMILATION …
(A SOUTH-AMERICAN EXPERIENCE)

Back To SchoolThe Armenian Genocide period for the graduating class in the college was dedicated to the discussion of the subject, “Integration or Assimilation” on Wednesday, November 9. On this occasion, Carlos Seferian, a national public leader from Southern America and who was found in Lebanon for a short visit, lectured to the students.

The students of Grade 10, accompanied by their Armenian history teacher, the principal, Mr. Vicken Avakian, were present in the lecture and participated in the discussion of that profitable subject.

Carlos Seferian presented the Armenian colony in Southern America, the difficulties that face it, and the means that are undertaken to preserve the Armenians there. Then, he talked about the concepts of assimilation and integration and made an extensive discussion with the students about that subject.
