THE FOUNDER BENEFACTORS OF THE COLLEGE
She was born in Bitlis. She lost her parents when she was very young; that's why, she was taken to the American orphanage in Izmir. She was one of those Armenians who had been saved from the Turkish barbarity. Then she was taken to the USA where she got married to Mr. Levon Hagopian in 1906.
After her husband's death, she continued working until she reached a prosperous state. She dedicated herself to public work where she found spiritual relief and satisfaction. For long years she was the chairman of Armenian Relief organization.
To immortalize her husband's Levon Hagopian's memory, she provided ''Asbarez" newspaper with profitable estates worth $ 30,000. She donated the most valuable estate ''Levon Memorial Centre" to the Armenian Relief Organization.
In 1959, she donated quarter million dollar to the Armenian Educational Foundation under the name "Levon and Sophia Hagopian Fund". She under took the establishment of a similar school in Greece in 1960 in coorperation with the Armenian Blue Cross. Another college with similar name was founded in Bourj Hammoud in Lebanon in cooperation with the Armenian Educational Foundation. Apart from these, she participated financially and morally in public activities without any differentiation.
She died on November 28, 1967 and on December 1 after a national funeral procession she was buried in the "Ararad" cemetery of Frezno.
After her death and taking into consideration only the big amounts of money in her will and the donations that she had done to various national institutions, it was found out that more than one million dollar, which was her fortune, was provided to her nation as one of its humble and worthy children, the ideal Armenian mother.
She got the honourable name of benefactress from Catholicos Khoren I, the Catholicos of House of Celicia in 1963 in a special pastoral letter dated October 30.
She was decorated, in her absence, by the president of Lebanon with first degree decoration of the cedars during the inanguration of the college in Bourj Hammoud on October 25, 1964.
He was born in the village of Mogounk in Moush in 1882. He got his secondary education in the American college of Izmir and his national education from his father, the famous Reverend Hagop Kaprielian.
He immigrated to the USA in 1904. He got married in 1906 to Sophia.
He was generous, able, and a devoted person. He was an editor in "Asbarez" newspaper. He served his people as a humble member in the Armenian Revolutionary Federation.
Character wise, he was good-natured, pious, and an ideal Armenian who was always ready for any sacrifice. He died in 1944.
ARMENIAN EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
It was founded in California in 1950 based on the following basic objectives:
1. To Provide financial help to the Armenian schools found in countries close to the USA without any religious or denominative differentiation.
2. To help the needy Armenian students to get higher education in the American universities.
3. To help in establishing Armenian schools in countries close to the USA and where there are Armenian colonies.
